Festina Diver Watch

Starting from 1.490 €

The Festina Swiss Made Diver COSC, also sold under the name Odyssey Diver, is a Swiss dive watch that upends the usual hierarchy of its category. At around €1,490, it offers a Soprod automatic movement certified chronometer by COSC, 300 metres of water resistance and a unidirectional rotating bezel with ceramic insert. Its 47.3mm 316L stainless steel case takes on a generous footprint, while its six dial colours, from midnight blue to sunny yellow, claim the spirit of a leisure diver rather than that of a sober military instrument. Supplied with a second rubber strap and its changing tool, it targets enthusiasts seeking a genuinely accessible chronometer certification.

Festina Swiss Made Diver COSC dive watch

Festina was born in 1902 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the cradle of Swiss watchmaking, under the impetus of the Stüdi brothers and under the motto Festina Lente, “hasten slowly”. Sold in 1935, the company was moved to Barcelona during the Second World War, then bought in 1984 by Spanish businessman Miguel Rodríguez, who gave it its current sporting direction. The Chrono Bike collection, sponsorship of the house cycling team from 1990, then official timekeeping for the Tour de France in 1998 and the Tour de Suisse and Tour de Romandie in 2005 firmly established the brand in the world of competition.

This history explains Festina's mainstream positioning, but it hides another, more horological side. The group in fact owns the Swiss manufacturer Soprod, whose calibres power the Festina Swiss Made line. It is from this integration that the Diver COSC was born, the most technical piece in the collection, designed as a genuine tool watch rather than a simply sporty-looking one.

The Diver COSC brings together the expected codes of a modern diver: large-diameter steel case, unidirectional rotating bezel with ceramic insert, screw-down crown protected by an articulated system engraved LOCK, 300 metres of water resistance and a dial with large luminescent hour markers. It adds to this an independent chronometer certification and an open caseback revealing the personalised oscillating weight. Its colour palette, from yellow to orange via turquoise, finally embraces a playful character that clearly sets it apart from monochrome military divers.

The Festina Swiss Made Diver COSC dive watch

The Festina Swiss Made Diver COSC occupies a singular place in the landscape of accessible divers. The brand is best known to the general public for its sports watches and its role as cycling timekeeper, but the Swiss Made collection answers to a far more demanding brief. This Diver, also sold under the name Odyssey Diver, is its most technical piece: it carries an automatic Soprod Newton P092 calibre certified chronometer by COSC, a feat still rare at around €1,490.

The 316L stainless steel case measures 47.3mm in diameter, a size that fully asserts its wrist presence and echoes contemporary large divers. The 60-click unidirectional rotating bezel receives a black ceramic insert, a material resistant to scratches and discolouration. The 300-metre water resistance puts the watch in the category of genuinely usable underwater instruments, well beyond the needs of leisure diving. The large, airy textured dial relies on generous luminescent hour markers and a date window at 3 o'clock topped with a cyclops lens. The whole adds up to a legible, robust and demonstrative watch, one that does not seek the restraint of a military tool but rather the visual statement of a diver with character, designed to be worn as much daily as underwater.

Six dial colours for a certified Swiss diver

The Diver COSC comes in six versions that strictly share the same case, the same calibre and the same black ceramic bezel. Only the dial changes, and with it the watch's temperament: sunny yellow (F20043/1), dark blue (F20043/2), orange (F20043/3), green (F20043/4), turquoise blue (F20043/5) and black (F20043/6). The black version remains the most understated, with matching dial and bezel, while midnight blue plays the classic diver card. Yellow, orange and turquoise, by contrast, embrace a frankly colourful register, closer to a leisure watch than a military instrument.

Each reference is offered at the same price and comes with a rubber strap matched to its dial, in addition to the steel bracelet with deployant clasp fitted as standard. Switching between the two is done using the tool supplied in the box, but the uncommon 23mm lug width limits the possibilities for replacement with aftermarket straps. On the wrist, the 52mm lug-to-lug and 14.5mm thickness call for a wrist of a certain size, even if the flexibility of the rubber strap softens the sense of bulk. The sapphire open caseback finally reveals the personalised oscillating weight, an unusual detail on a diver rated to 300 metres and a further argument for lovers of visible mechanics.

Festina Swiss Made Diver COSC dive watch: accessible chronometer certification

The Festina Swiss Made Diver COSC combines a 47.3mm 316L stainless steel case, a thickness of 14.5mm, a 60-click unidirectional rotating bezel with a black ceramic insert and 300 metres of water resistance. Its automatic Soprod Newton P092 calibre, with 23 jewels and 28,800 vibrations per hour, offers 44 hours of power reserve and carries COSC chronometer certification. The sapphire crystal incorporates a cyclops lens over the date at 3 o'clock, and the open caseback reveals the oscillating weight. Six dial colours are offered at the same price, supplied with a steel bracelet, a matching rubber strap and a changing tool.

01

Movement

The heart of this diver is an automatic Soprod Newton P092 calibre, a Swiss movement with 23 jewels beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour. Its distinguishing feature lies in its certification: each example passes COSC controls, a rare guarantee of precision at this price point. The 44-hour power reserve allows a full night off the wrist without needing to reset the time. The open caseback reveals the personalised oscillating weight in the brand's colours.

Diameter and materials

The case adopts a generous footprint with a 47.3mm diameter, 14.5mm thickness and 52mm lug-to-lug. It is cut from 316L stainless steel and topped with a 60-click unidirectional rotating bezel fitted with a black ceramic insert, common to all six versions. The textured dial comes in yellow, dark blue, orange, green, turquoise blue or black, each colour noticeably altering the watch's character. The sapphire crystal incorporates a cyclops lens above the date window.

03

Water resistance

With 300 m / 30 ATM water resistance, the Diver COSC far exceeds the needs of leisure diving and falls in line with genuine tool watches. This resistance relies on a screw-down crown housed in an articulated crown guard engraved LOCK, an uncommon solution that mechanically locks the whole assembly. The 60-click unidirectional bezel allows dive time to be tracked without risk of overestimation, while the Super-LumiNova-treated hour markers and hands ensure legibility in the dark.

Accessories

The watch is supplied on a steel bracelet with deployant clasp fitted with a safety catch and a diving extension, allowing it to be adjusted over a wetsuit. The navy blue box and its outer case also contain a perforated Tropic-style rubber strap with a pin buckle, matched to the dial colour, along with a changing tool. The 23mm lug width remains unusual, however, and restricts the choice of alternative aftermarket straps. The two setups are nonetheless enough to cover both sporty and everyday use.

Warranty

The Festina Swiss Made Diver COSC benefits from a two-year international warranty, that is twenty-four months from the date of purchase from an authorised retailer such as Festina Swiss or an official dealer such as Juwelier Steiner. This duration applies uniformly across the six dial colours offered in the collection. On a diver of this type, fitted with a screw-down crown and rated to 300 metres, it remains advisable to have the gaskets periodically checked to preserve the stated water resistance over time.
