Venezianico Nereide 42 Dive Watch

Starting from 625 €

The Venezianico Nereide 42 is the young Venetian house’s signature dive watch, water resistant to 200 metres and offered in five dial versions. Named after the Nereide submarine, a flagship of Venice’s naval engineering, it pairs a 42 mm 316L stainless steel case with dual finishing, a sunburst brass dial and a BK7 optical glass bezel insert, a material still rare at this price point. Powered by the Seiko NH35A automatic calibre with three hands and date, it is worn on the proprietary Canova steel bracelet, closed by a butterfly deployant clasp. At 625 euros, it targets watersports enthusiasts and fans of carefully built, accessible divers.

Venezianico Nereide 42 dive watch

Venezianico was founded in late 2017 in Venice, launched by brothers Alberto and Alessandro Morelli, then students at Ca’ Foscari University. The brand initially existed under the name Meccaniche Veneziane, launched through a crowdfunding campaign, before adopting its current identity and opening its own boutique-workshop. Its logo reproduces the golden Renaissance cross that crowns the Clock Tower on St Mark’s Square. The company is now based in San Donà di Piave, in the Veneto region, and claims a Venetian identity in each of its models.

The Nereide collection is the house’s dive line. Its name comes from the submarine Nereide, built in Venice between 1911 and 1913 to a design by engineer De Bernardis: over forty metres long, nearly four and a half metres wide, 13.2 knots on the surface and 8 knots submerged. Venezianico presents the collection as a tribute to the city’s naval ingenuity, down to the solid caseback engraved with the submerged submarine underway.

The Nereide 42 opens this family, which today counts around forty variations ranging from the plainest versions to hardstone dials or tungsten bezels, some powered by Swiss movements. Here, the brand stays true to a proven Japanese calibre, a deliberate choice for affordability. It positions the watch for those practising watersports and notes that its models, water resistant to 20 ATM, suit recreational diving.

The Venezianico Nereide 42 dive watch

The Nereide 42 occupies the entry point of Venezianico’s dive collection, without giving up the Venetian house’s aesthetic choices. Its 316L stainless steel case, 42 mm in diameter, alternates soft curves and pronounced edges, a geometry underlined by a dual finish: the horizontal surfaces are polished, while the vertical flanks receive a very fine satin brushing. The result plays on two registers, rather classic seen from the front, noticeably more contemporary in profile. With 12.8 mm of thickness and a 49 mm lug-to-lug span, the watch keeps the proportions of a versatile diver, cut for a medium to large wrist.

The sunburst-finished brass dial owes its shine to a multitude of engraved lines converging towards the centre, which reflect light radially and animate the watch at the slightest movement. The hour markers and hands are filled with Swiss-made Super-LumiNova® BGW9, and the display sits under an anti-reflective treated sapphire crystal. The whole is designed for real use. The brand explicitly aims this diver at those practising watersports, and its 200-metre water resistance places it above the usual threshold for recreational diving. At 625 euros, it offers a level of construction and finishing uncommon at this price bracket, without trying to imitate the codes of luxury divers.

Five sunburst dials and a BK7 glass bezel

The Nereide 42 comes in five versions that differ only by colour: green dial (3321511C), blue (3321512C), red (3321513C), black (3321514C) and light blue (3321515C). The bezel insert matches the dial colour in each case, and the price stays identical across references, at 625 euros. Red is the boldest colourway of the series, sky blue the brightest, while black plays the card of everyday versatility. The most original feature of this series lies in the BK7 optical glass bezel insert.

Lead-free and light, it combines low dispersion, with an Abbe number close to 60, and low refraction, giving a transparency and visual depth that neither aluminium nor ceramic can offer. The 120-click rotating bezel retains, for its part, the expected function of a diver. On the styling side, the Canova steel bracelet, of proprietary design, requires sixteen different moulds to produce. Its dual polished and satin finish echoes that of the case and highlights the central links, while the butterfly deployant clasp integrates into the last central link without breaking the design’s continuity. The solid caseback, engraved with the Nereide submarine underway submerged, recalls the origin of the name, and the Seiko NH35A calibre rounds out the package with a simple, hardy automatic.

Venezianico Nereide 42 dive watch: Venetian naval heritage

The Venezianico Nereide 42 brings together a 42 mm 316L stainless steel case with dual finishing, 12.8 mm thick with a 49 mm lug-to-lug span. Its sunburst brass dial, available in green, blue, red, black or light blue, is protected by an anti-reflective treated sapphire crystal and driven by the Seiko NH35A automatic calibre with three hands and date. The BK7 optical glass bezel insert and 120-click rotating bezel accompany a 200-metre water resistance, equivalent to 20 ATM. The Canova steel bracelet, of proprietary design, closes with a butterfly deployant clasp. The watch carries a two-year warranty and is priced at 625 euros.

01

Movement

The Nereide 42 is powered by the Seiko NH35A calibre, an automatic three-hand-with-date movement widely proven in the world of accessible divers. Venezianico embraces this Japanese choice for its reliability and ease of servicing rather than for horological prestige. The brand states a power reserve of around 40 to 42 hours and a tolerance of -20/+40 seconds a day, values consistent with this price category. It also recommends a service every four to five years to preserve the watch’s performance over time.

It is cut from 316L stainless steel and plays on a dual finish, polished horizontal surfaces and finely satin-brushed vertical flanks. The BK7 optical glass bezel insert, lead-free and highly transparent, replaces the usual ceramic or aluminium. The sunburst-finished brass dial comes in green, blue, red, black or light blue depending on the reference, under a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment.

03

Water resistance

The Nereide claims 200 m / 20 ATM water resistance, a level the brand considers suitable for recreational diving and watersports. The screw-down crown, protected by crown guards and engraved with the Venetian cross, locks the case, while the solid caseback is engraved with the Nereide submarine submerged. The 120-click rotating bezel tracks dive times and the Swiss-made Super-LumiNova® BGW9 ensures legibility in the dark.

The butterfly deployant clasp integrates into the last central link without breaking the design’s continuity and bears the Venezianico cross. The brand does not, however, detail the exact contents of the box supplied with the watch.
