Vostok Europe Lunokhod YM86
Starting from 832 €The Vostok Europe Lunokhod is an outsized dive watch, built for extreme environments and carrying the legacy of the Soviet Lunokhod-2 lunar rover. Its 49mm case, rotating dive bezel and automatic helium release valve place it firmly in the category of deep-diving tool watches. Lighting comes from Swiss tritium tubes mounted vertically on the dial, giving continuous legibility with no recharging needed. Driven by a Japanese multifunction quartz movement with perpetual calendar, 24-hour chronograph and audible alarm, it comes in four dial versions and ships in a waterproof box with two interchangeable straps. A massive, technical and limited piece, aimed at fans of expressive dive watches.
Vostok Europe Lunokhod dive watch
Vostok Europe was founded in August 2003 in Vilnius, Lithuania, where its watches are still designed and assembled. The first pieces left the workshops in August 2004 bound for Germany, Poland, Greece and the United States, and by 2007 the distribution network already covered some thirty countries. The brand has built its identity on massive, technical timepieces claimed to be tested under extreme conditions, and relies on a network of sporting ambassadors drawn from rally driving, aerobatics, strength sports and martial arts.
This orientation is immediately visible in the Lunokhod collection. The model pays tribute to Lunokhod-2, the Soviet lunar rover that landed on the Moon on 15 January 1973. Over roughly four months of activity, the vehicle covered 37 kilometres of rough terrain and sent back to Earth 86 panoramas and more than 80,000 images. That 37-kilometre distance remained the longest ever covered by a robot on another celestial body until the 21st century. The caseback reflects this heritage with an engraving dedicated to the rover.
The Lunokhod translates this exploration legacy into an underwater register: rotating dive bezel, screw-down crown, automatic helium release valve and permanent tritium-tube lighting. It is aimed at those seeking a bold dive watch, legible in all circumstances and free from the constraints of recharging its lume. Delivered in a waterproof box with its straps and changing tool, it positions itself less as a dress accessory than as a piece of equipment.

The Vostok Europe Lunokhod dive watch
Designed as a genuine tool watch, the Lunokhod sports a size that does not go unnoticed. Its case measures 49 mm in diameter for 17.5 mm thick and 56.6 mm lug to lug, dimensions that restrict it to larger wrists but which are explained by the nature of its construction. Machined from 316L stainless steel, the case carries a solid screw-down caseback and a screw-down crown, two features essential to a diver intended for prolonged immersions. The rotating dive bezel completes the set and allows the usual tracking of dive time. The multilayer dial, protected by a 3.5mm tempered K1 crystal with anti-reflective treatment, adds depth to the reading and reinforces the front’s resistance to the knocks encountered in real-world use.

The 200m water resistance puts the watch in the category of serious divers, and the inclusion of an automatic helium release valve extends its reach to mixed-gas diving. Delivered with two straps and a screwdriver in a waterproof, shockproof box, it comes across less as a dress accessory than as a piece of equipment. Its aesthetic, massive and frankly utilitarian, fully embraces its space inspiration and technical orientation. Fans of discreet dive watches should look elsewhere: the Lunokhod asserts its presence on the wrist and its vocation as an instrument.
Tritium, multifunction quartz and limited series
At the heart of the Lunokhod, the S.Epson YM86 calibre is a Japanese multifunction quartz movement that goes well beyond simply displaying the time. Alongside hours, minutes, seconds and a day indicator, it offers a perpetual calendar, an audible alarm and a 24-hour chronograph with a central hand, a set of functions rarely combined at this price point. The real visual draw, however, remains the lighting: 13 Swiss tritium tubes are mounted vertically on the dial, joined by 2 tubes in the hour and minute hands. This technology requires no exposure to light and no maintenance, and guarantees continuous brightness claimed for at least ten years, a decisive advantage underwater as well as at night.

The watch comes in four versions. Reference YM86-620C504 pairs a yellow dial with a steel case coated in black PVD, while the YM86-620A505, A506 and A636 keep the natural steel and adopt black, graphite or turquoise dials respectively. Each reference is announced as a limited edition of 3,000 pieces. The choice therefore comes down to the desired contrast: the black PVD version with the yellow dial pushes the instrument spirit to its maximum, while the black and graphite dials stay more understated and the turquoise brings a more nautical note. All share the same case, the same functions and the same equipment delivered in the box.
Vostok Europe Lunokhod dive watch: the tritium instrument
With its 49mm 316L steel case at 17.5 mm thick, its rotating dive bezel and its 3.5mm tempered K1 crystal with anti-reflective treatment, the Vostok Europe Lunokhod has the build of an instrument. Its 200-metre water resistance is backed up by an automatic helium release valve and a solid screw-down caseback. The Japanese quartz calibre S.Epson YM86 adds a perpetual calendar, a 24-hour chronograph and an audible alarm. Thirteen Swiss tritium tubes on the dial and two in the hands ensure permanent legibility. Four dial versions, each limited to 3,000 pieces, are offered with two interchangeable straps.
Movement
The Lunokhod is powered by the S.Epson YM86 calibre, a Japanese multifunction quartz movement. It displays hours, minutes, seconds and the day, and adds a perpetual calendar, an audible alarm and a 24-hour chronograph with a central hand. This versatility suits the intended sporting use well: no winding, no date correction to worry about, and immediate restart after a long period at rest. The choice of quartz also brings good shock resistance and stable accuracy over repeated dives.
Diameter and materials
The case measures 49 mm in diameter, 17.5 mm thick and 56.6 mm lug to lug: outsized proportions reserved for larger wrists. It is machined from 316L stainless steel, left bare on the A505, A506 and A636 references, and coated in black PVD on the YM86-620C504. The multilayer dial, offered in yellow, black, graphite or turquoise depending on the version, is protected by a 3.5mm tempered K1 crystal with anti-reflective treatment. The solid caseback is held in place with screws.
Water resistance
The Lunokhod claims 200 m / 20 bar water resistance, secured by a screw-down crown and a solid screw-down caseback. The case also incorporates an automatic helium release valve: this spring-loaded one-way valve opens once the pressure differential reaches a critical threshold, which makes the watch suited to divers working at great depth and in mixed-gas conditions. The rotating dive bezel completes the setup, while the tritium tubes guarantee instant reading in total darkness.
Accessories
The set includes two interchangeable straps: a genuine leather strap with an integrated buckle and a silicone strap, both in a 25mm lug width, along with the screwdriver needed for changing them. The whole is delivered in a VE Dry Box L, a waterproof and shockproof plastic case designed to carry the watch during extreme activities. A solid integrated steel bracelet with a diver’s deployant clasp is available separately, with the black PVD version also offered as a set including this bracelet.
Warranty
Vostok Europe covers the Lunokhod with a 2-year manufacturer warranty, covering manufacturing defects and materials. This duration matches the market standard for a watch of this category, and the authorised dealer network handles after-sales support. For a piece sold as diving equipment, regular checks of the gaskets and the screw-down crown are still recommended before any dive: this is the condition for preserving the stated water resistance and the benefit of the coverage over the long term.
