Originally launched in 2021, the Sealander family was created by Christopher Ward around the concept of a “go-anywhere, do-everything” watch, inspired by 20th-century sports-explorer models. The C63 Sealander Extreme GMT pushes this philosophy considerably further with an architecture specifically developed to withstand harsh environments. Christopher Ward presents it as its “everyday action hero”, an international watch designed to accompany its wearer both in daily life and during more demanding activities. Its aesthetics and several of its technical solutions give it a strong military character, even though Christopher Ward does not officially classify it as a field watch or military-issued watch.
Its Sellita SW330-2 movement is installed inside a rubberised internal cage designed to absorb and distribute the energy generated by impacts. According to the brand, this structure protects against shocks, drops, vibrations and even G-forces encountered in aviation. The dial follows the same functional approach with 18 separate Globolight® components, a luminous ceramic material offering strong night-time visibility. The orange GMT hand and fixed 24-hour bezel allow a second time zone to be monitored, while the V-Strap in military-grade Cordura® provides a direct connection to tactical equipment. A Military GMT Built to Withstand Shocks
The C63 Sealander Extreme GMT adopts a construction that is noticeably more robust than that of a conventional GMT watch. Its 41 mm Light-catcher™ case is made of marine-grade stainless steel and relies almost exclusively on brushed finishes in order to limit reflections and reinforce its utilitarian aesthetic. It measures 48 mm lug-to-lug for a thickness of 12.05 mm. The case alone weighs 73 g, while the configuration fitted with the Bader steel bracelet reaches 166 g. Its fixed 24-hour bezel uses sand-blasted ceramic resistant to scratches and features numerals filled with Super-LumiNova® Grade X1. The solid screw-down caseback stands out thanks to a deeply stamped three-dimensional globe, a direct nod to the international vocation of this GMT.
But the main innovation lies inside. The Sellita SW330-2 is not simply fixed inside the case according to a conventional construction. Christopher Ward installs it in a rubberized support that works together with the movement’s Incabloc system. A flexible ring connects this structure to the outer case, allowing the internal movement-case assembly to retain a certain independence during an impact. Energy is therefore absorbed and distributed rather than transmitted directly to the mechanical components. This architecture was developed to withstand shocks, falls and vibrations. Christopher Ward even mentions its ability to cope with the G-forces encountered in aeronautical environments, reinforcing the highly technical character of this adventure watch.
Globolight®, GMT and Cordura® for an Operational Identity
Legibility is the other major hallmark of the C63 Sealander Extreme GMT. Christopher Ward uses 18 distinct pieces in Globolight®, a technology combining ceramic and luminous material in order to create directly luminous three-dimensional elements. The indexes, main hands and logo produce a blue glow, while the GMT hand and the numerals on the 24-hour bezel emit green light. This differentiation makes it possible to quickly distinguish local time from the GMT indication in the dark. The black or khaki dial features a grainy matte texture completed by an applied rehaut, while the orange GMT hand provides an immediately identifiable visual marker.
The Sellita SW330-2 automatic movement provides the GMT function through a centrally mounted hand that can be adjusted independently. This 25-jewel calibre runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour, or 4 Hz, and offers an advertised power reserve of between 50 and 56 hours. The stated tolerance communicated by Christopher Ward is ±20 seconds per day. The watch also retains a date display with a disc matched to the dial colour and a screw-down crown. Its 150-metre water resistance allows it to handle common nautical uses without difficulty, even if it does not have the architecture of a dedicated dive watch. Two main strap families make it possible to change the character of the Extreme GMT. The brushed steel Bader features a micro-adjustable ratcheting clasp. More tactical in spirit, the new V-Strap in military-grade Cordura® uses a two-part construction, an engraved metal buckle, reinforced Velcro® and a quick-change system. Warranty
Christopher Ward applies its 60|60 programme to the C63 Sealander Extreme GMT. It combines 60 days of free returns with a 60-month movement warranty. This five-year coverage applies to the mechanical defects covered by the brand’s conditions and does not constitute a full warranty on every element of the watch. Notably excluded are accidental or cosmetic damage, straps, as well as certain deterioration linked to improper use or insufficient maintenance of the water resistance.
