Col&MacArthur Normandie 1944 Miyota

Starting from 699 €

The Col&MacArthur Normandie 1944 Miyota is a commemorative military watch dedicated to the D-Day landings of 6 June 1944 and Operation Overlord. Designed and assembled in Belgium, it belongs to the brand’s Battlefront universe, which turns every watch into a vessel for an authentic artefact. Here, sand from Sword Beach is encapsulated at 9 o’clock, while the dial either reproduces a period military map or is shaped from the steel of an American M1 helmet. Powered by a Japanese automatic movement and housed in a 43mm matte black case, this numbered piece is aimed at military history enthusiasts, collectors, and anyone who wants to wear the memory of D-Day on their wrist.

Col&MacArthur Normandie 1944 Miyota military watch

Col&MacArthur is a Belgian watchmaking house based in Ans, near Liège, where a team of eight people designs and assembles every watch in its own workshops. The brand, co-founded by Sébastien Colen, has built its identity on a simple but powerful idea: every model is a numbered edition that incorporates an authentic artefact linked to a historical event. Its watches do not simply evoke history, they carry a fragment of it.

The Normandie 1944 joins the Battlefront universe, dedicated to major battles, alongside the Armistice 1918, Pearl 1941 and Spitfire 1940 models. It pays tribute to 6 June 1944, the day the Allied forces launched Operation Overlord on the Normandy coast. The sand encapsulated in the case was collected along the path running by Sword Beach, at Hermanville-sur-Mer, with an official document from the town hall. The optional M1 helmet and M1928 haversack come from collector and dealer Gustafson, who supplies his own certificates of authenticity.

Unveiled on 25 November 2025 at the D-Day Experience museum in Carentan-les-Marais, the watch quickly found an audience: CNN ran an article on it, and several hundred pieces had already sold by December 2025, reaching as far as the United Arab Emirates, Italy and Greenland. More than a commemorative object, the Normandie 1944 is intended as a military watch of remembrance, designed for history enthusiasts as much as for watch lovers drawn to strong identity pieces.

The Col&MacArthur Normandie 1944 Miyota military watch

The Normandie 1944 Miyota presents itself as a military watch with real character, where every detail of the dial tells part of the D-Day story. Its 43mm diameter case, finished in matte black 316L steel, has a sober, tactical look that leaves room for the narrative to unfold. The dial comes in two versions. The first reproduces a period military map showing the names of the Allied ships Texas, Glasgow and Hawkins, which supported the advance of troops along the Normandy coast. The second is shaped from the steel of a Second World War American M1 helmet. A gold thread, dubbed the “line of fire”, runs across the dial to mark the boundary between sea and land.

At 9 o’clock, a capsule holds sand from Sword Beach, collected at Hermanville-sur-Mer with the authorisation of the town hall. The seconds hand, shaped like a parachute, evokes the paratroopers of the 6th Airborne Division dropped at 00:50 in the Normandy night. These symbols turn the simple act of reading the time into a quiet reminder of 6 June 1944. The tribute continues on the back of the watch. The screw-down caseback, protected by a sapphire crystal, reveals the US Army emblem surrounded by the names of the five beaches, the date of D-Day, and Eisenhower’s words “The Eyes of the world are upon you”. This caseback becomes a miniature memorial in its own right, discovered by turning the watch over.

Construction and movement of a watch built on memory

Beneath its historical narrative, the Normandie 1944 rests on solid technical foundations. The matte black 316L steel case has a thickness of 12mm for a 43mm diameter, assertive proportions that give it real presence on the wrist. The 20mm lug width opens the door to a wide range of straps and keeps the watch well balanced on the wrist. On the front, a sapphire crystal described as scratchproof protects the dial from everyday knocks and scrapes. The heart of the watch is entrusted to the Miyota 8215 calibre, a Japanese automatic movement known for its reliability.

Fitted with 21 jewels, it delivers a 42-hour power reserve, enough to take the watch off for the evening and find it still running the next morning. The case offers 10 ATM water resistance, backed up by a screw-down caseback, a level of protection consistent with everyday wear of a military watch. The look can be personalised with three straps: a military green NATO-style fabric strap supplied as standard, a matte black steel bracelet with deployant clasp, or a strap made in France from an authentic M1928 haversack. Each option brings out a different facet of this military watch, from field-ready spirit to collector’s piece. The production run follows the same logic: every piece is numbered, the Heritage version is limited to 1,944 pieces, while the Memory version remains numbered without a production limit.

Col&MacArthur Normandie 1944 Miyota military watch: memory of D-Day

The Col&MacArthur Normandie 1944 Miyota pairs a Japanese Miyota 8215 automatic calibre with 21 jewels and a 42-hour power reserve with a matte black 316L steel case measuring 43mm in diameter and 12mm thick. Protected by a sapphire crystal and a screw-down caseback, it is water resistant to 10 ATM. Its dial, available in cartographic form or shaped from the steel of an M1 helmet, holds sand from Sword Beach at 9 o’clock. Supplied with a green fabric strap, presentation case, certificate of authenticity and explanatory booklet, it comes with a 2-year international warranty.

01

Movement

The Normandie 1944 Miyota runs on the Miyota 8215 calibre, a Japanese automatic movement that winds with the natural motion of the wrist. It features 21 jewels and delivers a 42-hour power reserve, enough autonomy to leave the watch aside for an evening and still find it on time. A version with a Swiss Sellita movement and titanium case is offered separately. This calibre is a sound choice for a commemorative military watch, whose value lies first and foremost in its story and its artefacts.

Diameter and materials

The 43mm diameter case measures 12mm thick with a 20mm lug width. Case and caseback are made from matte black finish 316L steel, reinforcing the model’s military character. A sapphire crystal protects the front, while a second sapphire covers the back. The dial can be chosen between a period D-Day map and a version shaped from the steel of an American M1 helmet. In both cases, sand from Sword Beach is encapsulated at 9 o’clock.

03

Water resistance

The Normandie 1944 Miyota offers 10 ATM water resistance, a level that covers everyday hazards. This protection relies in particular on a screw-down caseback in 316L steel, whose closing system ensures a solid hold, and on a sapphire crystal at the front. The caseback also features a sapphire window, revealing the US Army emblem. Designed as a commemorative military watch, the Normandie 1944 is not meant to replace a dedicated diver, but it copes comfortably with everyday wear.
