The story of this ZRC (Zero Reconnaissance Club) begins beneath the surface of the Red Sea. A brand ambassador since 2015, Stéphane Tourreau is one of France's leading freedivers. On June 26, 2026, he reached a depth of 145 meters using variable weight, setting a new CMAS world record in this discipline. Variable weight diving is a particularly spectacular discipline. The freediver uses a weighted device to descend before ascending under their own power, notably with the aid of a rope or by finning, according to the applicable regulations. At such depths, performance is obviously not simply about holding one's breath. Pressure, equalization, physical and mental preparation, technical mastery, and ascent management make each attempt an extremely demanding exercise. The MN64 Titanium World Record is directly associated with this adventure. During the months of preparation for the record attempt, Stéphane Tourreau notably used the watch at depths exceeding 120 meters.

3,000 meters of water resistance and tests down to 5,100 meters

The technical specifications here are quite impressive. The ZRC MN64 Titanium World Record is guaranteed water-resistant to 3,000 meters. But ZRC goes even further: the watch is advertised as having been tested at a pressure corresponding to a depth of 5,100 meters. Obviously, no scuba diver, let alone a freediver, will ever approach such depths. The purpose of such a construction is therefore not to allow a human being to dive to 3,000 meters with the watch on their wrist. This technical extravagance is rather a demonstration of the case's ability to withstand considerable pressures with a significant safety margin. This is an approach commonly found in extreme professional dive watches: pushing the theoretical resistance of the instrument to its limits so that the stresses of an actual dive fall well within its operating range.

A case back capable of deforming intentionally

Among ZRC's most original technical solutions is its case back with programmed deformation. The idea may seem paradoxical. One might think that the best dive watch is necessarily one whose case remains perfectly rigid when pressure increases. ZRC takes a different approach by working on how certain elements of the case react to stress. Deformation is no longer simply endured: it is anticipated and integrated into the design. A 5 mm sapphire crystal

The dial is protected by an imposing 5 mm thick domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating. This feature demonstrates how the MN64's construction differs from a traditional diver's watch. The crystal must contribute to the overall strength of the case when subjected to considerable pressure. Its domed profile also evokes certain historical dive watches, even though the material and performance clearly belong to contemporary watchmaking. Finally, the use of sapphire provides exceptional scratch resistance, particularly valuable for a watch designed to be regularly exposed to harsh environments.
