Farer is an independent British house founded in London in 2015 by Paul Sweetenham, built around a simple principle that has remained its signature: British Design x Swiss Made. The design, colours and dial architecture are conceived in London, assembly takes place in Switzerland, and sales happen directly through the brand's own shop, with no retailer network. This setup allows the brand to offer richly specified Swiss mechanical watches at a contained price while keeping an instantly recognisable visual identity. The bronze cabochon set into the crown, which develops patina over time, is the most emblematic detail of all.
Farer's pilot line dates back to 2020, with the first Bradfield and Morgan models, already built in steel and already fitted with an antimagnetic Faraday cage. The Pilot Series II, unveiled on 28 April 2026, rebuilds this architecture entirely from scratch. The case moves to grade 2 titanium for a 25 gram weight saving over the first series, the calibre gains in thinness and autonomy, and the dials are redesigned to offer three distinct personalities at the same price. Each watch honours a figure of British aviation. The Curtis pays tribute to Lettice Curtis, a pilot with the Air Transport Auxiliary and the first woman to ferry an Avro Lancaster bomber.
The Hewlett refers to Hilda Beatrice Hewlett, the first British woman to hold a pilot's licence, who founded the country's first flying school at Brooklands in 1910 before building more than 800 military aircraft during the Great War. The Barnwell evokes brothers Frank and Harold Barnwell, creators of the first successful Scottish powered aircraft in 1909, with Frank later designing the Bristol Fighter and the Blenheim. A fourth variant, the Curtis Eastern Arabic with Eastern Arabic numerals, has been released in a limited edition of 100 pieces.

The Farer Pilot Series II pilot's watch
The Pilot Series II follows the codes of the pilot's watch to the letter while breaking away from them through colour and texture. The grade 2 titanium case, 40mm in diameter, stays compact thanks to short lugs, measuring 43mm lug to lug with thickness limited to 10.9mm. These proportions, combined with the lightness of the metal, make it a watch equally at home under a sleeve or in a demanding environment. The case receives a matte bead-blasted finish, while the brushed bezel gets a so-called coin edge knurling, the only decorative concession in an otherwise deliberately functional design.
The oversized conical crown is easy to operate, even with gloves, and carries the bronze cabochon engraved with the brand's A, an instantly identifiable Farer signature. The dial is protected by a domed sapphire crystal designed to preserve legibility in all circumstances. All the hour markers and hands use Super-LumiNova Grade X2, with Lumicast markers moulded from a mix of ceramic and luminescent material on two of the three versions. No date function disrupts the composition, a deliberate choice that reinforces the symmetry of the dials and the instrument-like character of the watch.
Three dials, three figures of aviation
The collection comes in three versions at the same price, each with its own personality. The Barnwell features a bronze dial with a Type B layout, with a large outer minute track and inner hour scale, angled segments inspired by turbine blades, a sky-blue minute track and fluorescent orange hands; its case receives a matching burnished brown PVD. The Hewlett favours pure legibility with a textured ink blue dial with an engraved crosshatch and a raised, fully luminescent minute track; it is the only version without coating, in naturally bead-blasted titanium. The Curtis, finally, plays with light through twelve concave blue-grey duodecimal segments that light up in pairs as the wrist moves, in a case with navy blue PVD.
A fourth variant, the Curtis Eastern Arabic with Eastern Arabic numerals, was produced in a limited edition of 100 pieces. The technical heart is shared across all three: the Sellita SW300-1 calibre in Elaboré grade, regulated in four positions, with 56 hours of power reserve. It sits inside a soft-iron Faraday cage that protects the movement's running up to 500 Gauss, more than eight times the ISO 764 threshold. The screw-down caseback also bears the brand's own antimagnetic marking, a direct nod to the cockpit environment this watch was designed for.

Movement
All three versions share the Sellita SW300-1 calibre in Elaboré grade, a Swiss automatic movement that is thinner and more enduring than the SW200 often used at this price point. It counts 25 jewels, beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers around 56 hours of power reserve when fully wound. Each example is regulated in four positions, protected by an Incabloc Novodiac shock absorber and features a hacking seconds function. The custom Farer rotor and the guilloché decoration remain hidden beneath the solid caseback.
Diameter and materials
The case measures 40mm in diameter, 10.9mm thick and 43mm lug to lug, with a 20mm lug width. It is machined from grade 2 titanium, matte bead-blasted, its brushed bezel fitted with a coin edge knurling. The Hewlett keeps natural titanium, the Curtis gets navy blue PVD and the Barnwell burnished brown PVD, each matched to its dial. The domed sapphire crystal receives five layers of internal anti-reflective coating. The dials come in bronze, ink blue or textured blue-grey.
Water resistance
The Pilot Series II offers 100 m / 10 ATM water resistance, a generous figure for an aviation watch that allows swimming and daily use without special care. The screw-down caseback is engraved with the brand's antimagnetic marking, a reference to the soft-iron Faraday cage protecting the movement up to 500 Gauss. The oversized conical crown is easy to grip, gloves included. Luminescence is provided by Super-LumiNova Grade X2, with Lumicast markers on two of the three versions.
Accessories
Each watch is delivered on a leather strap chosen at order from several finishes: suede, St. Venere or Granolo, in colours that vary by version. The Hewlett offers seven, the Curtis four, the Barnwell four. The titanium buckle matches the case treatment, blue PVD on the Curtis and burnished brown PVD on the Barnwell. Quick-release spring bars make strap changes easy. The watch arrives in a handmade blue case with its documentation, with caseback engraving offered free of charge.
Warranty
Farer backs the Pilot Series II with a 5-year warranty, or sixty months, a longer period than the market standard at this price point. It covers the movement and excludes the case, crystal, crown and straps, parts considered subject to wear. As sales are made directly through the brand's online shop, with no retailer network, after-sales service is handled directly by Farer.
