Humbert-Droz HD9 GMT Dive Watch

Starting from 1.290 €

The Humbert-Droz HD9 GMT is a French dive watch turned travel companion, released to mark the tenth anniversary of the Besançon-based house. It keeps the 43 mm steel case of the HD9 but swaps the diving bezel for a unidirectional rotating bezel graduated over 24 hours, paired with a red-tipped GMT hand. Powered by the Swiss La Joux-Perret G110 GMT calibre, hand-assembled in Besançon, it offers 68 hours of power reserve and 200 metres of water resistance. Available in two dial versions, black or gradient blue, each limited to 150 numbered pieces, it targets enthusiasts of French watchmaking, dive watches and rare pieces.

Humbert-Droz HD9 GMT dive watch

Humbert-Droz is a Besançon watchmaking house launched in 2016, with family roots going back to 1956, the year the family founded the Réparalux workshop in Besançon. Four generations of watch assembly later, the brand claims a limited-series production, hand-built in its workshops at the Parc Alpia. This local presence comes with a French-Swiss dimension: since December 2021, Humbert-Droz has worked with the La Joux-Perret manufacture, whose G100 family movements are designed in Switzerland then assembled in France by the house’s watchmakers.

The HD9 collection is the brand’s diver line. Launched in 2023 as editions limited to one hundred pieces per model, it brings together watches water-resistant to 200 metres, fitted with a sapphire crystal and a luminescent unidirectional bezel, with variants such as the Deep Pro and Deep Pro 2, the latter co-designed with freediver Maxime Goix, and also the HD9 Vintage.

The HD9 GMT extends this story with a technical leap: it introduces for the first time the La Joux-Perret G110 calibre, announced back in 2022 as the version aimed at travellers. Designed to mark the brand’s tenth anniversary, it turns the house’s diver into a companion for time zones, with the anniversary inscription, the tricolour flag and the numbering engraved on the dial.

The Humbert-Droz HD9 GMT dive watch

The HD9 GMT takes over the house diver’s case without ceremony. Its 316L steel case measures 43 mm including the crown, for a thickness of 14 mm, generous proportions that reflect the model’s sporty origins. The screw-down crown, engraved with the HD logo, locks the case and maintains 200 m / 20 ATM water resistance, a figure that places this edition among genuine dive watches rather than mere sports watches. The openworked steel caseback offers a view onto the movement, while the sapphire crystal protects a dial topped with a date magnifier.

The change of purpose comes down to the bezel: where the HD9 usually offers a diving scale, this version receives a unidirectional rotating bezel graduated over 24 hours, luminescent, used to track a second time zone. The display shows hours, minutes, seconds, date and GMT time. The rhodium-plated hour markers and hands, treated with Luminova, keep up the diver’s legacy of legibility, by day as in darkness, while the red-tipped GMT hand stands out immediately from the rest of the dial. The overall result stays coherent: a tool watch built for water, redirected towards travel without giving up anything on ruggedness or direct time reading.

Two dials for a tenth anniversary edition

The HD9 GMT comes in two versions that share the same construction and the same price. The first receives a deep black dial, which catches the light depending on the angle and heightens the contrast of the rhodium-plated markers. The second adopts a gradient blue dial that darkens towards the edges and shifts shade depending on the wrist’s orientation. In both cases, the tricolour flag signing every watch from the house sits above the tenth-anniversary inscription and the numbering, each reference limited to 150 numbered pieces, with the serial number chosen directly at the time of order.

On the wearability side, the brand offers a steel bracelet or a NATO strap, closed with a steel deployant buckle, allowing the watch to shift from a sporty register to a more rugged look. A personalised engraving on the caseback is offered as an option for 15 €, adding an individual touch to this already numbered series. The retail price stands at 1,290 €, with a pre-order rate announced at 1,190 € by the brand. For that sum, the buyer gets a Swiss movement hand-assembled in Besançon, boasting 68 hours of power reserve, in a deliberately limited series.

Humbert-Droz HD9 GMT dive watch: a second time zone on the wrist

The HD9 GMT pairs a 43 mm, 14 mm thick 316L steel case with 200 metres of water resistance secured by a screw-down crown. Its sapphire crystal includes a date magnifier, its openworked caseback reveals the automatic La Joux-Perret G110 GMT calibre, offering 68 hours of power reserve and hand-assembled in Besançon. The unidirectional rotating bezel graduated over 24 hours and the red-tipped GMT hand manage the second time zone. Offered with a black or gradient blue dial, steel or NATO strap and deployant buckle, it is limited to 150 numbered pieces per version.

01

Movement

The HD9 GMT is powered by the La Joux-Perret G110 GMT calibre, an automatic movement designed in Switzerland then hand-assembled in the brand’s workshops in Besançon. It offers 68 hours of power reserve, enough to get through a weekend without winding, and drives the display of hours, minutes, seconds, date and the second time zone. This GMT complication is the real novelty of the HD9 collection, until now built around the same manufacture’s three-hand G100 calibre.

02

Diameter and materials

The case is made of 316L steel and measures 43 mm including the crown for a thickness of 14 mm, a generous format inherited from the HD9 diver. The openworked steel caseback reveals the movement, the sapphire crystal houses a date magnifier and the unidirectional rotating bezel graduated over 24 hours is luminescent. Two dials are offered: deep black for the first version, gradient blue darkening towards the edges for the second, both fitted with rhodium-plated markers and hands treated with Luminova.

03

Water resistance

The HD9 GMT claims 200 m / 20 ATM water resistance, a figure directly inherited from the house’s diver line. It relies on a screw-down crown bearing the HD logo, which seals the steel case. The unidirectional rotating bezel, however, is no longer graduated for dive time tracking but over 24 hours: the watch keeps a diver’s capability for water without offering its instrumentation. The markers and hands treated with Luminova ensure legibility underwater as much as at night.

Accessories

Two setups are announced by the brand: a steel bracelet or a NATO strap, both closed with a steel deployant buckle. The official listing does not specify whether both are delivered together or whether the choice is made at order, nor does it detail the contents of the box. The site does however offer a caseback engraving priced at 15 €, an additional option to personalise the numbered piece before delivery.

Warranty

Humbert-Droz announces a 2-year warranty on this edition, mentioned in the attribute table of the official listing, without the exact scope of coverage being detailed. As assembly takes place in the brand’s Besançon workshops, servicing stays close to production. Each piece is numbered from 1 to 150, with the serial number chosen directly at the time of order. This individual numbering, engraved on the dial, marks each piece out as a unique example of the series.
