Archimèdes by Milus Dive Watch

Starting from 2.350 €

The Milus Archimèdes by Milus is a Swiss dive watch that reinterprets the Super Compressor heritage of the Biel-based house. Its sandblasted yellow dial, with a retro seventies feel, displays three numerals at the cardinal points, a date window at 3 o’clock and luminescent Broad Arrow hands that favour underwater legibility. The 41mm 316L steel case, fitted with two screw-down crowns, a screwed caseback and a helium valve, claims 300 metres of water resistance. Inside beats a carefully decorated ETA 2892A2 Top Grade calibre. Offered in five dial colours, the Yellow Stone is the only version to give a choice between a rubber Tropic strap or a Milanese mesh bracelet, for 2,350 euros.

Archimèdes by Milus dive watch

Founded in 1919 in Biel, Milus is now part of the Tissot family and cultivates a discreet Swiss identity, refined and minimalist at once. The Archimèdes name is nothing new for the brand: it has denoted dive watches since the 1960s, starting with the 666, whose name referred to a water resistance of 666 feet. In the 1970s, the model received the famous Super Compressor case from Ervin Piquerez S.A., patented in the mid-1950s and shared at the time with Jaeger-LeCoultre, Longines, Hamilton and Bulova.

Its principle relies on a spring-loaded caseback whose water resistance increases with pressure, and on a double crown, one dedicated to the movement, the other to the internal bezel. Relaunched in 2020 within the ICONIC collection, the Archimèdes by Milus claims this lineage, citing the seventies Super 20 ATM as its direct source of inspiration.

The reissue keeps the two screw-down crowns, the sixty-minute graduated rotating chapter ring and a highly domed crystal that evokes the original plexiglass, while adding a helium valve and contemporary Swiss mechanics. The Yellow Stone version owes its name to the geological wonders of Yellowstone. The family also includes a limited Orange Coral, nominated at the 2021 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève in the Diver category and linked to the adoption of a coral with the NGO Coral Guardian.

The Archimèdes by Milus - Yellow Stone dive watch

Relaunched in 2020, the Archimèdes by Milus takes on the silhouette of the seventies Super Compressor divers without descending into literal copying. Its 316L stainless steel case measures 41mm in diameter and plays on the contrast between brushed flanks and a mirror-polished round bezel, a treatment that visually lightens a piece nonetheless built for water. At 11.9mm thick, crystal included, and with a 51mm lug-to-lug, it keeps reasonable proportions for a diver at this level of water resistance.

The sandblasted yellow dial is its signature. Three numerals set at the cardinal points structure the reading, complemented by a date window at 3 o’clock and by the celebrated Broad Arrow hands, faceted, rhodium-plated and treated with Super-LumiNova like the hour markers. The domed sapphire crystal, fitted with an inner anti-reflective coating, recalls the plexiglass of the original models while providing the resistance expected today. The bi-directional rotating chapter ring is operated from the upper crown: protected under the crystal, it is immune to knocks and to friction from a wetsuit, faithful to the principle of the historic cases. Altogether it makes for a legible, immediately recognisable tool watch, one that embraces its retro style without sacrificing the demands of a genuine contemporary diver, wearable both underwater and at the office.

Five dial colours and a choice of two straps

The Archimèdes by Milus is now offered in five versions that share the same technical architecture. The sandblasted yellow dial of the Yellow Stone sits alongside the grained black of the Gravel Black and the blue of the Deep Blue, both from the 2020 launch, the brushed silver of the Silver Storm with its royal blue chapter ring accents, and the brushed green of the Wild Green. All five versions are priced at 2,350€.

The Yellow Stone holds a special place: it is the only version to leave the choice of strap up to the buyer at purchase, between a black rubber Tropic and a 316L steel Milanese mesh bracelet, the latter currently listed as out of stock. The other versions come, depending on the version, with leather, textile or a Tropic rubber strap, blue on the Silver Storm and black on the Wild Green. On the wrist, the watch appeals as much to the recreational diver as to the collector attached to historic cases: the helium valve set into the case and the screw-down crowns recall its underwater vocation, while the compact format and the careful finishing of the calibre allow it to be worn every day, far from dive tables alone.

Archimèdes by Milus dive watch: Super Compressor heritage

A 41mm Swiss diver, the Archimèdes by Milus - Yellow Stone combines a brushed and polished 316L steel case, a domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal and 300 metres of water resistance provided by a double screw-down crown, a screwed caseback and a helium valve. Its sandblasted yellow dial, its three numerals at the cardinal points and its luminescent Broad Arrow hands favour legibility. The automatic ETA 2892A2 Top Grade calibre, decorated and rated at 42 hours of power reserve, handles the mechanics. Two straps are offered as a choice, rubber Tropic or Milanese mesh, for 2,350 euros and a 24-month warranty.

01

Movement

The Yellow Stone is powered by the ETA 2892A2 Top Grade calibre, a Swiss automatic base renowned for its slimness and reliability. This 21-jewel movement offers a 42-hour power reserve and drives a date window placed at 3 o’clock. Milus refines its presentation with perlage and côtes de Genève finishing on the bridges, blued screws and an openworked rotor stamped with the house logo. A coherent choice for a diver intended for both immersion and everyday wear.

Diameter and materials

The case is made of 316L stainless steel alternating brushed and polished surfaces, for a 41mm diameter and 11.9mm thickness, crystal included. The 51mm lug-to-lug remains measured relative to the case width. The domed sapphire crystal, with an inner anti-reflective coating, recalls the plexiglass of period divers. The sandblasted yellow dial sets this version apart from the other executions, available in grained black, blue, brushed silver, brushed green or coral orange.

03

Water resistance

The Archimèdes claims 300 m / 30 ATM water resistance, a level largely sufficient for recreational diving. The construction pairs a double screw-down crown, bearing the Milus and Diver logos in relief, a screwed caseback and a helium valve discreetly set into the case. The bi-directional rotating chapter ring, operated from the upper crown, allows dive time to be tracked away from knocks, while the Super-LumiNova-treated markers and hands guarantee legibility in the dark.

Accessories

The Yellow Stone is the only version offered with a choice of two straps: a black rubber Tropic closed by an 18mm polished steel clasp, or a 316L steel Milanese mesh bracelet fitted with a 20mm clasp, currently listed as out of stock. The other versions come, depending on the version, with leather, textile or a blue or black Tropic rubber strap with a pin buckle. Milus does not detail the box contents, the two straps being presented as two purchase options at the same price.

Warranty

Milus backs each of its watches with a 24-month warranty, mentioned throughout the brand’s official boutique. The Biel-based house also provides worldwide delivery, taxes and customs included, and offers a return policy available online. The product’s specification table does not restate the length of cover, which appears in the general terms and conditions. For a Swiss timepiece sold at 2,350€, this coverage remains in line with the segment average.
