Casio G-SHOCK Mudmaster GWG-B1000

Starting from 799 €

The Casio G-SHOCK Master of G, Land MUDMASTER GWG-B1000 is the flagship of the Mudmaster family, the branch of G-SHOCK built for muddy, dusty terrain subject to vibration. The ninth generation of a line launched in 1985, it combines a multiguard bezel structure in DLC-coated steel, bio-based resin reinforced with carbon fibre, and a solar-powered analogue-digital quartz movement fitted with the Triple Sensor. Multi-Band 6 radio sync, Bluetooth connectivity and anti-reflective sapphire crystal round out a proposition clearly aimed at expedition use. Offered in two versions at the same price, one black with gold accents, the other distinctly tactical with an olive green strap, it is aimed at fans of rugged military watches and high-end G-SHOCK models.

Casio G-SHOCK Master of G, Land MUDMASTER GWG-B1000 military watch

The line of mud-resistant G-SHOCK watches dates back to the DW-5500 of 1985, then the DW-8400 Mudman of 1995. The principle was simple and radical: remove as many openings as possible through which dirt could get in, so the watch kept running where conventional mechanisms would clog. Casio continued this logic in 2015 with the first Mudmaster GWG-1000, then the GWG-2000, before unveiling the GWG-B1000 on 28 September 2023. It is the ninth generation of this family and the flagship of the Master of G, Land line.

At G-SHOCK, Master of G groups watches dedicated to a specific terrain, and the Mudmaster occupies the Land category. It draws its inspiration from overlanding and off-road vehicles, a world of self-sufficient expedition where the wrist instrument matters as much as the onboard equipment. The GWG-B1000 reflects this orientation through a reinforced bezel structure, integrated sensors and navigation functions designed for orientation in degraded conditions, when visibility drops to zero or the terrain offers no landmarks.

On the wrist, it is aimed at military personnel, field professionals and tool-watch enthusiasts looking for a timepiece capable of taking dust, vibration and shocks without requiring particular upkeep. It is currently available in a sober register enhanced with gold accents, and in a distinctly more tactical version with sand-coloured markings and an olive green strap.

The Casio G-SHOCK Mudmaster GWG-B1000 military watch

The Mudmaster holds a special place within the Master of G collection: it is the G-SHOCK built for worksites, trails and environments where dirt, sand and vibration attack mechanisms. The GWG-B1000 fully embraces this brief with a new multiguard bezel architecture, which combines a forged stainless steel bezel coated in DLC, metal upper and lower guards, and sides in carbon fibre-reinforced resin. The case itself relies on a Carbon Core Guard structure and uses a bio-based resin, also employed for the strap.

The dimensions remain those of an expedition watch: 58.7 × 52.1 mm for a thickness of 16.2 mm and 114 g on the scale, a more contained format than previous Mudmaster generations. The black dial combines analogue display with an LCD screen, with a bearing counter at 3 o’clock and an altimeter-barometer counter at 9 o’clock that also serves as a charge indicator. The hands and hour markers receive Neobrite treatment, complemented by fully automatic dual LED lighting. Protected by anti-reflective sapphire crystal, the whole package clearly targets real outdoor use rather than style statements, and the front DLC-treated steel pusher guard confirms this field-instrument orientation.

Triple Sensor, solar power and two versions

Beneath the dial, the Mudmaster relies on Casio’s module 5713, an analogue-digital unit powered by light through the Tough Solar system, with a charge indicator and power-saving mode. Time setting is automatic, via Multi-Band 6 radio sync or Bluetooth through the CASIO WATCHES app. The Triple Sensor combines altimeter-barometer, digital compass and thermometer, with a memory of thirty altitude readings, sunrise and sunset times, a world time function covering 55 cities, a 1/100-second chronograph, a countdown timer and five alarms.

Two new functions complete the package: the Location Indicator, which directs the hand of the 3 o’clock counter toward a point saved in the app, and the Mission Log, which records waypoints travelled and their altitude. The model comes in two versions at the same price. The GWG-B1000-1A goes for sobriety with a black dial with gold accents and a black bio-based resin strap. The GWG-B1000-1A3 adopts the most overtly military register of the series: black bezel, beige and sand accents on the dial, and a matte olive green resin strap. This second version is not a limited edition. In both cases, the pin buckle and adjustment range allow comfortable wear over a thick sleeve.

Casio G-SHOCK Mudmaster GWG-B1000 military watch: all-terrain ruggedness

The G-SHOCK Mudmaster GWG-B1000 combines a multiguard structure with a forged DLC-coated steel bezel, bio-based resin reinforced with carbon fibre and anti-reflective sapphire crystal. Its 58.7 × 52.1 × 16.2 mm case houses the module 5713, a solar-powered Tough Solar analogue-digital quartz movement with Multi-Band 6 radio sync and Bluetooth connectivity. The Triple Sensor provides altimeter-barometer, compass and thermometer functions, complemented by the Location Indicator and Mission Log. Water resistance reaches 200 m and the build resists mud, dust, shocks and vibration. Two versions exist, black with gold accents or tactical with an olive green strap, priced at 799 €.

01

Movement

The GWG-B1000 is built around the Casio module 5713, a solar-powered analogue-digital quartz movement marketed under the Tough Solar name. Light alone is enough to power the watch, which features a charge indicator and power-saving mode. Time setting is automatic via Multi-Band 6 radio sync or Bluetooth link with the CASIO WATCHES app. It also includes a 1/100-second chronograph, a countdown timer, five alarms, world time for 55 cities and the Triple Sensor covering altimeter-barometer, compass and thermometer.

Diameter and materials

The case is not circular: Casio states 58.7 × 52.1 mm for a thickness of 16.2 mm and 114 g. The construction combines bio-based resin and carbon fibre-reinforced resin with a forged stainless steel bezel coated in DLC, with the front pusher guard made from metal-injection-moulded steel also DLC-treated. The black dial is set off with gold accents on the GWG-B1000-1A and beige and sand accents on the GWG-B1000-1A3. The sapphire crystal receives an anti-reflective treatment.

03

Water resistance

The 200 m / 20 bar water resistance puts this military watch on par with sports diving watches, even though its primary vocation remains terrestrial. The structure also resists mud, dust, shocks and vibration, staying true to the Mudmaster philosophy inherited from the Mudman: limiting the openings through which dirt could get in. For nighttime reading and degraded conditions, the Neobrite hands and hour markers are backed up by fully automatic dual LED lighting.

Accessories

The watch is delivered on a bio-based resin strap closed with a pin buckle, black on the GWG-B1000-1A and matte olive green on the tactical GWG-B1000-1A3 version. The adjustment range covers wrist sizes from 145 to 215 mm, allowing it to be worn over a technical sleeve. The CASIO WATCHES app rounds out the equipment with watch settings, an expanded world time covering around 300 cities, the Mission Log, the Location Indicator and phone finder. The contents of the box are not detailed.

Warranty

The GWG-B1000 is covered by a two-year warranty, the usual duration for G-SHOCK watches distributed in Europe. Tough Solar power brings a concrete advantage here: no battery to replace, so no need to open the case for years, which preserves the gaskets and the stated water resistance. As with any exposed tool watch, it is still advisable to rinse the case and resin strap in clear water after an outing in mud, sand or seawater.
