Elliot Brown Ltd is a British workshop based in Poole, Dorset, founded in 2013 around a single idea: build watches that can survive what usually destroys the others. Its signature is defensive rather than decorative. The movement sits on a steel carrier cushioned by silicone gaskets, the strap bars are screwed directly into the lugs, the crowns carry a triple gasket and every watch is individually water-tested before shipping. After-sales service is handled in-house at the Poole workshop, and the warranty covers the entire watch for five years.
The Arne line is the brand's first field watch. Its name comes from the Arne peninsula, located a few hundred metres from Elliot Brown's headquarters, across Poole Harbour. In 1942, the site was turned into a decoy known as Starfish: burning tar barrels and paraffin pipes were meant to lure bombers away from the Royal Navy's cordite factory at Holton Heath. On the night of 3 to 4 June 1942, two hundred and six craters were counted on the peninsula. The deception had worked. Arne is now a nature reserve.
The Cali Noir carries that history forward with a California dial, whose Roman numerals on the upper half and Arabic numerals on the lower half appeared on military watches of the 1930s and 1940s to maximise legibility and reduce misreading. By bringing back the aged PVD case of the original Arne, which sold out in three minutes, this reference makes a deliberate return to the collection's military roots.
