SERICA was founded in Paris in 2019 by Jérôme Burgert and Gabriel Vachette, with a guiding idea: to design watches conceived as instruments, precise, robust and refined. The models are designed in Paris and manufactured in Switzerland, a split that explains the coherence between the brand’s very French aesthetic vocabulary and the technical demands of its calibres.

The field watch is the brand’s founding model. The SERICA W.W.W. of 2019, whose designation echoes that of the British military Wrist Watch Waterproof of the 1940s, laid the groundwork: a legible dial, a compact case, clean hands. The Réf. 4512 succeeded it in 2020, raising water resistance to 20 bar. In October 2023, the Réf. 6190 replaced it with a refined case, fully luminescent enamel dials, and a move to certified chronometer status, SERICA having formalised COSC certification of its production that same year in collaboration with Soprod and the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres.

The M.S.L. variant, introduced in May 2024, adds a new identity to the reference. Its military origins fade in favour of a sportier design, with raised circled applied hour markers and the return of a white dial, absent from the catalogue since 2019. The designation refers to Mean Sea Level, the reference point used for measuring altitude, a nod to the world of altitude the brand has cultivated since the ascent of Denali by Nicolás Diaz and Gabriel Morant in June 2022.

The Réf. 6190 M.S.L. carries on the format that made the brand’s reputation: a 316L steel case measuring 38mm, with proportions calibrated for a versatile field watch. The design plays on alternating polished and brushed finishes and lyre lugs that soften the silhouette, while the flat “Step” bezel, vertically brushed with a polished chamfer, structures the profile without weighing it down. With a thickness of 10.4mm including the crystal, the watch slips under a cuff with ease, which remains rare for a piece boasting this level of water resistance.

The time is read off an enamel dial with raised circled applied hour markers, linked to the minute track to help pinpoint five-minute intervals. The central seconds hand carries a luminescent dot, a detail typical of tool watches. The 1.8mm double domed sapphire crystal receives an anti-reflective treatment on its inner face, which preserves legibility in bright light while retaining the characteristic curvature effect of 1950s watchmaking. The 8mm screw-down crown offers a firm grip for winding and setting the time, even with cold or gloved hands, true to the functional logic the brand claims for itself.

Three enamel dials for a versatile tool watch

The M.S.L. variant comes in three versions at the same price. The first, 6190-1 Noir Émail, pairs a black enamel dial with white lacquered steel hands. The second, 6190-2 Blanc Polaire, marks the return of the white dial to the catalogue, with black hands. The third, 6190-3 Gris Tempête, offers a warm grey enamel shade, new to the collection, also paired with black hands. All three share the same circled applied hour markers filled with green-emitting Super-LumiNova C3.

Customisation does not stop at colour. Each version is available with the crown positioned at 3 o’clock or 9 o’clock, the latter configuration freeing the back of the hand. The Bonklip® 6190 bracelet in 316L stainless steel comes in three lengths, Small from a 15cm wrist size, Standard from 16 to 20cm and Extra-long from 19 to 24cm, with a clasp bearing the brand’s logo. A 20mm lug width also allows for numerous swaps, with the brand offering optional guilloché end pieces and SERICA Sport rubber straps. A personalised engraving service is also available, for an extra €200. All three references currently show as sold out on the brand’s official site, which announces a gradual return of its collections.

Movement

The Réf. 6190 M.S.L. houses the Soprod M100 calibre, a Swiss automatic mechanical movement fitted with 25 jewels. It beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour, or 4Hz, and delivers a 42-hour power reserve. Its shock-resistant construction suits the daily use of a field watch. A key point in the watch’s positioning: the calibre is COSC chronometer certified, a guarantee of precision verified by an independent body. Côtes de Genève finishing gives a polished presentation to a movement nonetheless intended for a functional instrument.

Diameter and materials

The case measures 38mm in diameter for a thickness of 10.4mm including the crystal, with a lug-to-lug of 46.5mm and a 20mm lug width. Case and bezel are cut from 316L steel, with alternating polished and brushed finishes and lyre lugs. The “Step” bezel adopts a flat surface with a vertically brushed top and a polished chamfer. The 1.8mm double domed sapphire crystal protects an enamel dial available in black, polar white or storm grey, with circled applied hour markers.

Water resistance

With 20 ATM of water resistance, or 200 metres, the 6190 M.S.L. far exceeds the usual specification for a field watch and moves into the territory of water sports watches. This performance rests on an 8mm screw-down crown and a screw-down caseback. The enamel dial and its applied hour markers filled with green-emitting Super-LumiNova C3 ensure immediate legibility in darkness, with the seconds hand also carrying a luminescent dot. Swimming, sailing and use in the rain therefore pose no difficulty.

Accessories

The watch is delivered as standard on the Bonklip® 6190 bracelet in 316L stainless steel, with a width of 20mm, its clasp bearing the brand’s logo. Three lengths are offered: Small for wrists from 15cm, Standard from 16 to 20cm and Extra-long from 19 to 24cm. As an option, SERICA offers guilloché end pieces as well as vulcanised rubber SERICA Sport straps. A personalised engraving service is available for an additional €200.

Warranty

All of the brand’s watches come with a two-year international warranty, running from the date the parcel is received. Buyers also have a 14-day right of return after delivery, and a refund remains possible as long as the order has not yet shipped. Delivery is free and handled by partners in France and internationally, with a stated lead time of five to ten days for an in-stock product.
