Among watch brands hailing from Ukraine, Kleynod holds a unique position. Based in Kyiv, the manufacturer has spent over twenty years developing watches that highlight the country's cultural and historical heritage. With the KT-840 TR, the brand offers a model inspired by the Ukrainian military world, though it is not an official service watch. It is available for around €655.
Kleynod: a manufacturer born in Kyiv
The Kleynod brand originated from the Kyiv Watch Factory, a company founded in 1997 in the Ukrainian capital. In 2002, it launched its first watches under the Kleynod name, becoming the first Ukrainian manufacturer to mass-produce wristwatches under its own brand. The models are hand-assembled and primarily feature Swiss Ronda or Sellita movements paired with stainless steel cases. Today, the catalog includes several collections blending classic inspiration, national heritage, and military themes.

Its aesthetic incorporates several hallmarks of military watches: a highly legible dial, luminous markers, a robust case, and a strap designed for daily use. Soldiers generally use watches purchased privately—whether from Casio, Garmin, Suunto, or other manufacturers. The Tryzub: a historic symbol
One of the most striking features of the KT-840 TR is the presence of the Tryzub, the famous Ukrainian trident. It is not a military logo in the strict sense, but rather the official small coat of arms of Ukraine, adopted following the country's independence in 1992. However, its origins date back over a thousand years; it was used as an emblem by the Rurik dynasty, which ruled over Kyivan Rus'. Over the centuries, this symbol has become a key marker of Ukrainian identity. Since the early 1990s, the Tryzub has appeared on official documents, uniforms, and various equipment used by Ukrainian institutions. In some stylized depictions, the lines of the symbol can also evoke the Ukrainian word "Воля" (Volya)—meaning "freedom"—though this interpretation is symbolic rather than historical.
A patriotic motto
Engraved on the dial, the Latin motto "Sapiens Dominabitur Astris" literally translates to "The wise man shall rule the stars." This phrase, of medieval origin, is known today as the motto of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine (GUR). Its inclusion on this watch reinforces the timepiece's military and patriotic identity, even though the Kleynod KT-840 TR is not an official issue watch for the Ukrainian armed forces.
