LIV Gravel 001 Automatic Military Watch

Starting from 850 €

The LIV Gravel 001 Automatic is a Swiss-designed outdoor watch built for tough environments, from gravel trails to job sites. Its round 43mm case is moulded from a proprietary material blending carbon fibre and polyamide, bringing the whole watch down to just 62 grams, a featherweight for this size. The collection comes in six versions, including a Nordic Camo with a camouflage pattern that pushes it firmly into military territory. Depending on the reference, the Swiss automatic movement comes from La Joux-Perret or Sellita, always visible through a skeletonised caseback. Sold direct between €760.95 and €850.95, it targets fans of rugged, lightweight tool watches, far from the classic codes of steel.

Military watch LIV Gravel 001 Swiss Automatic

LIV Swiss Watches is a micro-brand founded by Chaz and Esti, built on crowdfunding from the start. Launched on Kickstarter in 2015, the brand made a strong entrance in 2016 with the GX1 chronograph, which passed a million dollars in pre-sales, then followed up with the Rebel in 2017 and the titanium and ceramic P-51 in 2018. Headquarters opened in Miami’s Wynwood Arts District in 2020, while assembly stayed in La Chaux-de-Fonds. 2021 brought the first Dual Lume BGW9 and C3 dial, then the Trekker GMT arrived in 2025.

LIV positions itself as the most crowdfunded Swiss watchmaking micro-brand, with an openly direct-to-consumer sales model that cuts out retailer margins. The Gravel 001 Auto appears in 2023 in the brand’s official timeline, described by its two founding arguments: a dense carbon case and proprietary shock-resistant technology. It opens the Gravel Series, a family entirely geared towards the outdoors, gravel biking, trail running and messy use, since joined by a Gravel 002 Swiss chronograph.

LIV backs every watch with a written promise of precision, each piece passing through several watchmakers’ hands before shipping. The Nordic Camo, a more recent addition with its Nordic camouflage pattern and fully luminescent hands, extends this tool-watch logic into distinctly military territory, without changing anything about the model’s architecture.

The LIV Gravel 001 Automatic outdoor watch

The Gravel 001 takes a rare stance for this price range: abandoning steel in favour of a composite. Its round case is formed from Rugged Dense Carbon®, a proprietary blend of carbon fibre and polyamide combining rigidity and lightness. The result is immediately obvious on the wrist, since the complete watch weighs just 62 g for a diameter of 43.0 mm. This split between apparent size and actual mass changes how a watch of this size feels during a long ride, physical effort or a day of manual work.

The architecture remains that of a tool watch with no rotating bezel, focused on reading the time and date. The dial uses a multi-layer sandwich construction, with floating claw-set hour markers that create pronounced relief and a clear visual hierarchy between hours, minutes and the date window. BGW9 luminescence takes over as light fades. Above it, the sapphire crystal gets a scratch-resistant treatment on the outer surface and an anti-reflective coating on the inner side, preserving legibility in bright sunlight as well as under overcast skies. LIV has also built in a shock absorber designed to isolate the movement from impacts and vibrations, a detail that makes real sense on a bike or a job site.

Six versions, from Nordic camouflage to signature orange

The Gravel 001 now comes in six versions that share the same case and differ in dial, strap and sometimes calibre. The Ocean Blue pairs a deep ocean blue dial with thermally blued hands and hour markers, matched to a blue strap. The Nordic Camo carries a Nordic camouflage pattern across both dial and strap, and adds fully luminescent hour and minute hands, making it the version closest to military territory. The Cactus Gray goes for a mineral grey, the Stealth an all-black, low-key look, the Signature a bright orange on silicone, and the Full Lume a fully luminescent BGW9 Swiss Luminova dial mounted on a black and white strap.

The distinction does not stop at colour. The Cactus Gray, Stealth, Full Lume and Nordic Camo versions carry the La Joux-Perret G100, while the Ocean Blue and Signature keep a Sellita grade Elaboré. Pricing follows this split, from €760.95 for the Signature to €850.95 for the three most recent references. All of them get the same integrated Form-Fit silicone strap with quick-release, letting you swap colourways without tools and adapt the watch to different uses.

Military watch LIV Gravel 001 Swiss Automatic: extreme lightness

The LIV Gravel 001 Automatic combines a 43mm Rugged Dense Carbon® case, a thickness of 12.9 mm and a weight kept to 62 grams. Its multi-layer sandwich dial with floating claw-set hour markers gets BGW9 luminescence and a date window, protected by a scratch-resistant, anti-reflective sapphire crystal. The Swiss automatic movement, either La Joux-Perret G100 or Sellita grade Elaboré depending on the version, is visible through a skeletonised caseback. Water resistance reaches 100 metres and the integrated 22mm silicone strap changes without tools. Six colourways are offered, including a camouflage Nordic Camo, all backed by a five-year international warranty.

Movement

The Gravel 001 runs on a Swiss automatic movement whose origin varies by reference. The Cactus Gray, Stealth, Full Lume and Nordic Camo versions get the La Joux-Perret G100, 24 jewels, beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour with a 68-hour power reserve, featuring a tungsten rotor on ball bearings, KIF shock protection and Côtes de Genève on the bridges. The Ocean Blue and Signature rely on a Sellita grade Elaboré, 26 jewels, offering 42 hours of autonomy. LIV states a certified accuracy of ±5 seconds per day.

Diameter and materials

The round case measures 43.0 mm in diameter by 12.9 mm thick, with a lug-to-lug of 50.1 mm and a 22mm lug width. It is moulded from Rugged Dense Carbon®, a proprietary blend of carbon fibre and polyamide that keeps the weight to 62 g. The skeletonised caseback reveals the calibre. The sapphire crystal combines scratch-resistant and anti-reflective treatments. Dials vary by version: ocean blue, Nordic camouflage, cactus grey, all-black, orange or fully luminescent, always in a multi-layer sandwich construction.

03

Water resistance

The Gravel 001 offers 100 metres of water resistance, or 330 feet, a level suited to rain, sweat, showering and swimming, but which keeps it out of scope for scuba diving. The Ocean Blue version has a screw-down crown paired with a gasket system, while the Cactus Gray, Stealth and Full Lume versions use a push-pull crown. Night-time legibility is handled by BGW9 luminescence, taken to its maximum on the fully luminous dial of the Full Lume.

Accessories

Every Gravel 001 ships on an integrated 22mm Form-Fit silicone strap, matched to the dial of the chosen version: blue, camouflage, cactus grey, black, orange or black and white. The quick release system allows tool-free swapping, making it easy to rotate between colourways. The packaging is out of the ordinary, converting into a bike frame bag or shoulder bag, a logical extension of the gravel positioning. A precision certificate is mentioned by the brand on the Signature product page.

Warranty

LIV covers the Gravel 001 with a 5-year international warranty, activated automatically on purchase from the official store, with no registration needed. This coverage has separate scopes: water resistance is guaranteed for 24 months and accuracy for 12 months, with the rest falling under the main term. This policy fits the brand’s direct-to-consumer model, which cuts out traditional retailer margins and allows for after-sales support with no middleman.
