Luminox Navy SEAL Original 3001 Heritage Special Forces Watch

Starting from 595 €

The Luminox Navy SEAL Original 3001 Heritage is a military dive watch born from the historic link between the Swiss brand and the American special forces. Released in 2024 to mark Luminox's thirty-fifth anniversary and the 3001's thirtieth, it revives the original watch's silhouette while bringing concrete upgrades: anti-reflective sapphire crystal, unidirectional rotating bezel with a steel outer ring, and a Swiss quartz movement. Its black 43 mm CARBONOX™ case remains remarkably light, while permanent tritium tube illumination ensures instant legibility by day or night. Water resistant to 200 metres and delivered with its commemorative coin, it is aimed at enthusiasts of authentic action watches.

Luminox Navy SEAL Original 3001 Heritage special forces watch

Luminox was founded in 1989 and now belongs to the Swiss Mondaine group. Its identity was built on an order from the U.S. Navy SEALs: according to the brand, contact with the unit dates back to 1992, when combat swimmers were looking for a watch capable of withstanding underwater demolition and night operations, without a button or external light source to activate. The answer was the 3001 Original Navy SEAL, launched in 1994, with its ultralight CARBONOX™ case, 200 metre water resistance and permanent tritium tube illumination, the Luminox Light Technology, capable of producing a constant glow for up to twenty-five years.

The 3001 Heritage marks the return of this founding silhouette. Launched in 2024, it celebrates Luminox's thirty-fifth anniversary and thirty years of the original model. Luminox Europe states that three watches were released in May and June 2024 to honour this link with the Navy SEALs, one for each of the unit's fields of operation: sea, air and land. The anniversary markers on this version remain discreet but legible, with the number 30 in Luminox red on the bezel and a red arrow-tipped seconds hand.

Within the current Navy SEAL range, which includes the 3050 Colormark, the 3500 and the 3580 chronograph, the 3001 Heritage is the most compact and the most faithful to the historic watch. Luminox also notes its support for the Navy SEAL Foundation, and both the brand and the Mondaine group state that they have been fully carbon neutral since 2020.

The Luminox Navy SEAL Original 3001 Heritage military dive watch

The 3001 Heritage revives the silhouette that built Luminox's reputation among elite units. Its black 43 mm CARBONOX™ case retains the composite construction that has defined the 3001 since its debut: a resistant material that is above all very light on the wrist, an essential asset for a watch designed for prolonged action. At 13 mm thick, it remains reasonable for a diver of this diameter and slips easily under a sleeve. The black dial plays the card of operational sobriety, with a date window and a red arrow-tipped seconds hand, a nod to the model's thirtieth anniversary.

The bezel displays the number 30 in Luminox red, the only anniversary marker visible at first glance. Legibility relies on the Luminox Light Technology, a system of tritium tubes that give off a permanent glow for up to twenty-five years, with no prior exposure to light required. This is the feature that earned the 3001 its place on the wrists of combat swimmers, in total darkness as well as underwater. The anti-reflective sapphire crystal is the clearest upgrade over the original watch and improves both scratch resistance and readability in bright light. The black NBR rubber strap completes the package and extends the resolutely utilitarian purpose of this service watch.

Special anniversary edition for elite watch enthusiasts

Launched in 2024, the 3001 Heritage celebrates both Luminox's thirty-fifth anniversary and the three decades since the release of the first Original Navy SEAL. The brand presents it as a special edition rather than a numbered limited series: no production quota is announced, but each piece is delivered in a Heritage box together with a 35th anniversary commemorative Challenge Coin, which explains the commercial reference used by retailers for the set. Beneath the screwed 316L steel caseback beats a Swiss quartz ETA F06.412 movement, chosen for its ease of maintenance and reliability, displaying hours, minutes, seconds and date.

This technical choice matches the model's original spirit: a tool watch worn without a second thought. The 200 metre water resistance, individually tested, and the protected screw-down crown allow for recreational diving as well as demanding water activities. The unidirectional rotating bezel allows for timing an immersion or an exercise. Positioned alongside the current range's Navy SEAL 3050 and 3500, the 3001 Heritage is the most faithful to the historic watch and the only one to pair composite with metal on the bezel. Its 21 mm lug width remains specific to the family, with a dedicated replacement strap offered by the brand. Priced around 595 euros, it is aimed at military watch enthusiasts committed to authenticity.

Luminox Navy SEAL Original 3001 Heritage special forces watch: the legacy of combat swimmers

True to the watch commissioned by the Navy SEALs, the 3001 Heritage combines a black 43 mm CARBONOX™ case, a screwed 316L steel caseback and a protected screw-down crown. The Swiss quartz ETA F06.412 movement displays the time and date, while permanent tritium tube illumination guarantees instant legibility at night and underwater. The anti-reflective sapphire crystal and the unidirectional rotating bezel with a steel outer ring modernise the original recipe. Water resistant to 200 metres, delivered on a black NBR rubber strap with a Heritage box and Challenge Coin, it comes with a two-year warranty.

01

Movement

The 3001 Heritage is powered by a Swiss quartz movement, the ETA F06.412 calibre. It displays hours, minutes, seconds and date, without unnecessary complications, in keeping with the tool watch logic sought by the Navy SEALs. Quartz guarantees steady timekeeping without winding or mechanical maintenance, an asset both in operation and daily use. The battery life stated by the brand's official retailers varies, however, between fifty and eighty-four months. The watch is stamped Swiss Made, in line with the house's tradition.

Diameter and materials

The black 43 mm CARBONOX™ case uses the composite material that made the model's reputation: light, resistant and discreet. The 13 mm thickness remains contained for a diver of this size. The bezel combines a CARBONOX™ inner ring with a steel outer ring, a signature feature of this version, with the number 30 in red. The screwed 316L steel caseback closes the construction, protected by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal. The black dial prioritises operational legibility.

03

Water resistance

Rated at 200 m / 20 ATM and individually tested according to the brand, the water resistance places this Navy SEAL among genuine dive watches. The screw-down crown, protected by shoulders, and the screwed steel caseback ensure the case's watertightness, including during repeated entries and exits from water. The unidirectional rotating bezel allows for tracking an immersion time, while the tritium tubes of the Luminox Light Technology keep the dial legible in total darkness, with no prior light charging required.

The watch is delivered on a black NBR rubber strap closed with a 316L steel buckle, a simple set-up perfectly suited to water-based use. The lug width measures 21 mm, a width specific to the 3000 family for which Luminox offers a dedicated replacement strap. True to the model's anniversary positioning, each piece is presented in a specific Heritage box and accompanied by a Challenge Coin commemorating the brand's thirty-fifth anniversary, a detail appreciated by collectors of military pieces.
