The Ianos Amfivios is a titanium dive watch born from a military order: one placed by the Underwater Demolition Unit of the Hellenic Navy with Greek micro-brand Ianos. A civilian version of a watch never sold commercially, it keeps the case, construction and operational character of the original, dropping only the unit’s insignia and the deep blue dial, replaced by a matte black never before seen in the brand’s dive line. With its 41mm sandblasted grade 2 titanium case, 300-metre water resistance, 120-click bezel and strap channel built into the case, it is aimed at demanding divers and collectors of rare, history-laden tool watches alike.

Ianos Amfivios dive watch

Ianos is a Greek micro-brand founded by Jacob Hatzidimitriou, whose divers draw their visual vocabulary from Greek history and culture. The Avyssos, Mihanikos and then Dytis built, model after model, a recognisable grammar: matte titanium, absolute legibility, and wrist comfort pushed to the point of obsession. The watches are assembled and shipped from Switzerland, anchoring the house in a dual culture, Mediterranean in inspiration, Swiss in production.

In July 2025, Ianos delivered three hundred titanium divers to the Underwater Demolition Unit of the Hellenic Navy, the O.Y.K. The order, funded by the Athanasios C. Laskaridis Charitable Foundation, was presented to operators at Skaramangas by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. It is the first Greek-designed watch ever commissioned for a military unit, and it was never offered for sale.

The Amfivios, whose name means amphibious in Greek, was born from persistent demand from collectors and enthusiasts. It carries over the case, construction, bezel and operational character of the unit watch, but forgoes the O.Y.K. insignia and the operational blue dial. What remains is an uncompromising tool watch, designed for combat swimmers before being opened to a wider audience. The first production run has been set at three hundred pieces, of which one hundred numbered examples were sold by private subscription to existing customers, with the remaining two hundred offered to the public.

The Ianos Amfivios diver in grade 2 titanium

The Amfivios faithfully reproduces the case developed for Greek combat swimmers. Its grade 2 titanium case, 41mm in diameter, stays compact thanks to 49mm lug to lug, a proportion that lets it sit without overhang on most wrists. The stated height of 14.68mm deserves a note: it includes the strap channel carved into the monobloc caseback, and only 11.45mm separate the top of the crystal from the top of that channel. On the scale, the watch weighs just 86 grams, titanium proving markedly lighter than the stainless steel traditionally used in dive watchmaking.

The choice of this metal is not a matter of style. Its resistance to saline corrosion makes it an ideal material for a watch meant to live in seawater, humidity and extreme operational conditions. The matte sandblasted finish covers every external component, from the bezel to the buckle, producing a dark, non-reflective surface that limits glare in bright sun as well as low light. The titanium screw-down crown contributes as much to the visual coherence of the piece as to its pressure resistance. Above the dial, a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment delivers a clear read-off from every angle, while the 300m / 30 ATM water resistance far exceeds the needs of recreational diving.

Matte black dial, graduated bezel and strap channel

The dial is the only real departure from the unit watch: the deep operational blue gives way to a matte black, a first in the brand’s dive line, chosen to maximise contrast with the raised markers. The hour markers and hands are coated in Super-LumiNova, with two tones noted by the press, blue for the markers, green for the hands and bezel pip. The date window sits at 12 o’clock, framed by the luminescent marker, a layout inherited from the Mihanikos and specific to the brand’s divers. At 6 o’clock, the small seconds counter, this time fully functional, confirms at a glance that the watch is running.

The 120-click unidirectional bezel, in textured grade 2 titanium, carries a raised scale and a luminescent marker for timing dives. It is the most operational element of the piece, and the main aesthetic departure from the Dytis. The 20mm-wide single-pass rubber strap, with a waffle pattern, runs through the channel machined into the monobloc caseback: it removes any play between the case and the wrist without adding worn thickness. It closes with a sandblasted titanium pin buckle, with rubber keepers.

Inside, the Sellita SW360-1 calibre provides an approximate 56-hour power reserve and the reliability expected of a tool watch.

Movement

The Amfivios is powered by the Sellita SW360-1 calibre, a proven Swiss automatic movement distinguished by its offset small seconds. Fitted with 31 jewels and beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, it measures 25.60mm in diameter and allows manual winding as well as hacking seconds for precise time-setting. Its approximate 56-hour power reserve covers a full weekend off the wrist. The functions remain deliberately essential: hours, minutes, small seconds at 6 o’clock and date at 12 o’clock.

Diameter and materials

The case measures 41mm in diameter by 49mm lug to lug and 14.68mm in overall height, strap channel included. It is entirely machined from sandblasted grade 2 titanium, a material also used for the bezel, crown and buckle, giving a perfectly homogeneous piece weighing just 86 grams. The monobloc construction dispenses with a traditional screw-down caseback. The matte black dial carries luminescent 3D markers, protected by a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment that follows the watch’s overall curvature.

Water resistance

The Amfivios offers 300m / 30 ATM water resistance, a level that exceeds the needs of recreational diving and allows for professional use. This performance rests on the titanium screw-down crown, the monobloc case construction and the domed sapphire crystal. The 120-click unidirectional bezel allows dive time to be timed without risk of overstating elapsed time, while the Super-LumiNova applied to the markers, hands and bezel pip ensures legibility in total darkness.

Accessories

The watch comes on a custom black single-pass rubber strap with a waffle pattern, designed to run through the channel built into the caseback. Its 20mm width and fixed lugs require this type of fitting, which presses the case against the wrist and keeps it secure when worn over a wetsuit. The sandblasted grade 2 titanium pin buckle matches the case finish, with rubber keepers to match. Ianos does not detail the contents of its box, but worldwide shipping from Switzerland is included.

Warranty

Ianos backs the Amfivios with a two-year international warranty. It covers the movement, case, dial, hands and crown, but excludes straps, buckles and the crystal, considered wear items or parts exposed to impact. A notable feature for collectors, this coverage is transferable once to a second owner.
