Water Resistance to 500 meters and a helium escape valve
The main technical feature of the SMA34075.10 remains its water resistance to 500 meters, or 50 ATM. Swiss Military complements this construction with a screw-down crown and a helium escape valve located at 9 o'clock. The latter warrants some explanation. It is practically useless for traditional recreational diving. It is associated with saturation diving, when professional divers spend time in pressurized environments containing helium. The very small helium molecules can gradually penetrate the watch. During decompression, a pressure difference can then occur between the inside of the case and the outside environment. The valve is designed to allow the gas to escape. Its presence on the Diver 500 thus contributes to its professional positioning, even if this function will obviously remain unused by the vast majority of its owners. Each watch also has its own unique serial number, which is associated with the crown and the certificate provided with the timepiece. Production is strictly limited to 500 units.
The Sellita SW200 as the movement
To power its diver's watch, Swiss Military opted not for an in-house movement but for a tried-and-tested Swiss mechanism: the Sellita SW200. This automatic caliber has become one of the most widespread movements in independent Swiss watchmaking. Its appeal lies particularly in its familiar architecture and the existence of a large network of professionals capable of servicing it. The power reserve is advertised at approximately 38 hours. On this edition, the movement is visible through a sapphire crystal case back. Swiss Military has paired it with a custom rotor featuring a black finish, adding a more aesthetic dimension to a primarily functional mechanism. The brand states that each movement is hand-assembled in its workshop and that the watches undergo a pressure test equivalent to 500 meters before release.
Two straps for two uses
The SMA34075.10 comes with two strap configurations. The first option is a blue-plated stainless steel bracelet that matches the case. It features a folding clasp with a safety lock and an extension for wearing the watch over a wetsuit. A second black rubber strap is also included. Lighter and naturally suited to contact with water, it gives the watch a noticeably sportier look. Both straps use the Easy-Click system, allowing for tool-free strap changes. This dual selection reflects the watch's commitment to being suitable for both diving and everyday wear.
